This is the first entry of my new travel blog. I’m inaugurating the blog with a trip Barbara and I are making to Andalusia, Spain. We will be traveling for about 3 weeks with one-week stays in Cordoba, Seville, and Grenada. We are flying into and out of Madrid and considering day trips to other places in Andalusia.
Why Andalusia? My photography subjects include the interiors of large buildings. I was reviewing photos of Istanbul’s Hagia Sofia for the galleries associated with this website, http://www.placephotos.com, when I came across the fact that the Cathedral of Seville (1519) supplanted the Hagia Sofia as the largest religious building in the world at the time. I decided that I wanted to visit Seville and photograph the cathedral.

About the same time, Barbara learned that Europe’s sunniest city in winter is Seville. She’s studying Spanish and decided that Seville would be the ideal winter break. So with aligned motivations, we decided to visit Andalusia.
We’ve poured over guidebooks and maps and read histories and contemporary accounts about the cities and landmarks we plan to visit. I’ve virtually explored each city using Apple Maps and we have put together a varied, engaging and interesting itinerary. We’re very excited about visiting Andalusia and immersing ourselves in the cities and Spain’s culture. Stay tuned for more!
